Comedian Phyllis Diller, known for her self-deprecating humor, died "peacefully in her sleep" at her Los Angeles home Monday morning, her manager told CNN. Diller was 95.

Her son, Perry, "found her with a smile on her face," manager Milt Suchin said.

Diller's career as a stand-up comic, which she started at age 37, skyrocketed in the 1960s, partly because of her many appearances with Bob Hope on his television specials, USO tours and three movies.

She became a pop culture icon for her disparaging jokes about her looks, her cooking and her fictitious husband "Fang." She wore a blonde fright wig, held a long cigarette holder as a prop and laughed with a loud cackle.

Debtis of the plane that crashed found

Some debris of the plane carrying DILG Secretary were found by the search and rescue team. Here is the news: 

MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) - Navy and civilian divers have found on the seabed parts of what could be the aircraft carrying Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo and three other people that crashed Saturday off Masbate, Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas said Monday night.

Roxas said one member of a 3-person foreign diving team who is helping in search and rescue operations found a debris field around 180-210 feet underwater and roughly 2.5 kilometers from the shore.

Video footage taken by one of the divers shows a piece of debris on the seabed.

"Pic of debris found roughly 200 ft 2.5 km frm shore," Roxas said on Twitter.

He said a 4-man team of Navy technical divers confirmed the debris field is same area found by a civilian diver.

"[They found] glass pieces of cockpit. They marked it," Roxas said.

In a press briefing, Roxas said it is still too early to conclude that the debris is indeed from the ill-fated Piper Seneca plane, which carried Robredo, pilots Jessup Bahinting and Kshitiz Chand, and the interior secretary's aide Jun Abrazado.

Only Abrazado so far survived the crash.

"'Di masabing galing o hindi sa eroplano [ iyung debris]," Roxas said.

Political Battle over MEDICARE

(CNN) – The political battle over Medicare, brewing since Mitt Romney named Paul Ryan as his running mate, showed no signs of easing Sunday, with operatives from each campaign claiming their side had an advantage with senior citizens concerned about their government-funded health benefits.

Romney senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom, speaking on CNN's "State of the Union," said his campaign wasn't worried that seniors would be turned off by Ryan's House budget plan, which proposes allowing private insurers to compete with traditional Medicare on an exchange.

Robredo and the pilots are still missing

There were already more than three hundred in search and rescue operation for the DILG Secretary Robredo but they have not found them yet.

President Benigno Aquino on Sunday took the lead in the search for Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, a day after a light plane carrying the local government chief and three others crashed in waters off Masbate.

Mr. Aquino flew to Masbate early Sunday morning to oversee the search for the wreckage of the four-seat Piper Seneca that crashed into the sea while attempting an emergency landing about 5 p.m. on Saturday.

More than 300 rescuers were scouring the area about 500 meters from the shore of Masbate City for Robredo, who was missing along with the plane’s two pilots.

Robredo’s bodyguard, Chief Insp. Jun Abrasado, made a dramatic escape from the doomed plane and was rescued by fishermen. Abrasado was helping in the search, officials said.

Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas, who accompanied Mr. Aquino and was designated as official spokesperson for the search, said special sonar equipment had been flown to Masbate to help in the search operation after some debris, including one wing of the missing plane, was recovered.

“We just want to do everything we can to save him [Robredo],” Roxas said in a message on Twitter.

“We remain hopeful that Secretary Robredo was just carried by the current … and that he will be found,” Roxas said, adding that Mr. Aquino was “very emotionally attached” to Robredo and was doing everything he could to help find him.

Four people were on the private plane that was heading for Naga City in Camarines Sur province from Cebu City when it malfunctioned and crashed in waters between Masbate and Ticao Islands.

Missing, aside from Robredo, were Capt. Jessup Bahinting, the pilot and CEO of Aviatour Air that owned the aircraft, and Kshitiz Chand, the Nepalese copilot.

At about 3 p.m. Sunday, Masbate Bantay Dagat reported to City Mayor Socrates Tuason that a large object had been detected on the seafloor.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) also reported that a Navy vessel’s sonar had detected “something metallic” on the sea floor.

“The sonar showed it was something metallic. But it’s not definite yet if that was really part of the airplane,” NDRRMC Executive Director Benito Ramos said by phone.

Romney slammed Obama Medicare

In the address posted on his website, the GOP's presidential candidate said Obama’s healthcare law had taken $716 billion from the fund to finance “his takeover of the healthcare system.”

"Now if that wasn’t bad enough, his healthcare law also put in place a board of 15 unelected bureaucrats and gave them the power to make additional cuts to Medicare without even having to get approval from Congress,” he said.

“This means they could deny elderly Americans the care they’ve worked for their entire lives -- all because President Obama trusts bureaucrats more than he trusts seniors and their doctors,” he said.

“And here’s one more troubling aspect of all this: According to independent, non-partisan scorekeepers, these cuts the President’s people will take to Medicare won’t prevent it from going bankrupt: Experts estimate that Medicare’s trust funds will be exhausted just twelve short years from now,” Romney added.

Plane Crash

Search and rescue operation is going on in the planes crash site of Interior Secretary's plane hours ago,

A Cessna aircraft carrying Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo crashed in the sea off Masbate City Saturday afternoon, according to a Masbate official.

Masbate Vice Governor Vince Revil said the plane carrying Robredo and several others crashed 150 meters away from the Masbate airport.

“Nag-emergency call that they are going to have an emergency landing sa Masbate City Airport pero nag-crash ang plane about 150 meters away from the airport , nag-crash sa dagat,” Revil told “TV Patrol: Weekend.”

Revil said Robredo’s aide, identified as Capt. Jun Abrazado, has been rescued from the crash site. Revil said Abrazado was the one who pinpointed the location of the crash site.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing for Robredo and the two pilots.

Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang, meanwhile, confirmed that search and rescue operations are currently ongoing.

“The aircraft was off the coast of Masbate when contact was lost earlier today. We will be updating the public as details are confirmed: speculation is not useful at this point,” Carandang said in a statement.

According to Revil, Robredo’s plane came from Cebu and was headed to Naga City.

MANILA, Philippines—Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp. has suspended Robert Blair Carabuena, who was videoed slapping a traffic enforcer of Metro Manila Development Authority during an altercation on August 11.

In a statement, the company confirmed that Carabuena was an employee and was being investigated.

“PMFTC has suspended Mr. Carabuena pending the outcome of the investigation,” the statement said. “PMFTC reiterates that it does not condone inappropriate conduct by any of our employees.”

The company also stressed that when Carabuena argued with the MMDA traffic enforcer, he was on his personal time and not on duty for the company.

MMDA has announced that it would file charges against Carabuena.

Online marketer Paul Burks is accused of raising money from more than 1 million customers through ZeekRewards.com, a website in operation less than 2 years.

ZeekRewards customers were offered ways to earn money through the site, including buying unregisteredinvestment contracts that promised a share the company’s profits through rewards points that could be traded for cash payouts.

Rolito Go back to prison, Chief and guards sacked

Convicted murderer Rolito Go is back in the stockade, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief has gone on leave and five jail guards have been sacked as President Benigno Aquino ordered a probe into how a high-profile inmate disappeared from prison for at least 24 hours.

Police on Thursday said their investigation showed that Go  and a nephew who was with him  were “forcibly taken” from a minimum security compound at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, but Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said this was being looked into.

Go disappeared from prison on Tuesday evening. Police were able to get him back on Wednesday at about 11 p.m.

De Lima said Mr. Aquino was dismayed by what happened, given that measures had been adopted following reports that prominent inmates had been allowed to “live out” in the past.

“He is disappointed because, you know, this kind of incident keeps happening,” De Lima told reporters.

“He (the President) said,  ‘he thought all the safeguards and all the reform initiatives have been put in place to avoid similar incidents.’ He’s really disappointed and that’s why he immediately ordered an investigation,” she said.

De Lima said Mr. Aquino’s reaction was  “How can it happen again, if it’s true that it’s abduction or kidnapping for ransom right within the NBP?”

Pangilinan takes leave

Malacañang praised the Philippine National Police for recapturing Go. “It is good that while one agency was apparently remiss in its duties, another agency stepped up,” said presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.

Lacierda added: “To emphasize the principle of command responsibility and help the investigation, Bureau of Corrections Director Gaudencio Pangilinan has offered to go on leave, and the President has accepted it.”

Lacierda said the NBP  would be under the direct supervision of De Lima “pending the appointment of an officer in charge.”

De Lima said Pangilinan went on leave “for the sake of an impartial and thorough investigation.”

“Let’s not preempt him,” De Lima said when asked if Pangilinan was expected to resign.

“Maybe he’s thinking about it, maybe he’s not yet thinking about it, maybe he has a good explanation, maybe he can explain the level of responsibility and the level of efficiency and competence that was expected of him as the overall administrator of the facility,” the justice secretary added.

They are part of a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation competition to reinvent the toilet for the 2.5 billion people around the world who don’t have access to modern sanitation systems for handling the basic and vital need in disposing of bodily waste.

Scientists from around the world have taken up the challenge, and the foundation announced some projects on Tuesday that would be getting more money to take their ideas from the lab to the cities.  There, local entrepreneurs are expected to use the newtechnology to turn pollution into cash.

“Toilets are extremely important for public health and, when you think of it, even human dignity,” Gates, the Microsoft cofounder turned global philanthropist, said in a statement launching the “Reinvent the Toilet Fair” in Seattle.

“The flush toilets we use in the wealthy world are irrelevant, impractical and impossible for 40 percent of the global population, because they often don’t have access to water, and sewers, electricity, and sewage treatment systems,” he added.

The toilet fair was described as a swirl of about 200 inventors, designers, investors, partners and others passionate about creating safe, effective, and inexpensive waste management systems.

“We couldn’t be happier with the response that we’ve gotten,” Bill Gates said.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services began accepting requests Wednesday for consideration of deferred actionfor young undocumented immigrants who arrived in America as children.

The policy is a "temporary" measure that allows eligible immigrants to apply for work permits and deportation deferral for a two-year period. Opponents see the policy as granting backdoor amnesty to people who came to America illegally and tightening an already poor job market for young Americans.

Another high-profile prisoner at the state penitentiary has given prison officials the slip.

Rolito Go, a convicted road rage killer, was reported missing from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City on Tuesday night. But his relatives claimed Wednesday that he was kidnapped along with his nephew.

Three Philippine Daily Inquirer sources supported the claim of Go’s family, saying this was not the first time that a rich prisoner at the NBP or their relatives had fallen prey to a kidnap-for-ransom syndicate.

In a briefing for reporters, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima sounded unconvinced it was kidnapping.

“Imagine, kidnapped right in the NBP. Only in the Philippines,” De Lima said.

De Lima said Go was reported to have been last seen at the Ina ng Awa church at the prison compound where he was assigned as a church worker with his nephew, Clemence Yu, a registered nurse.

Go is suffering from colon cancer, and has had surgery.

De Lima said Yu came every day to dress Go’s surgical wounds and give him medicine.

Obama and Romney on MEDICARE

President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney battled over Medicare and energy policy Tuesday as the November election campaign reached out to battleground states crucial to both sides' chances for victory.

In an escalating struggle to seize the advantage on the contentious Medicare issue, the Romney campaign counterpunched with a new ad accusing Obama of cutting more than $700 billion from the government-run health care plan for senior citizens.

Romney made the same claim at two Ohio campaign appearances, three days after his selection of House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan brought the issue to the forefront of the campaign spotlight.

Ryan is best-known for a conservative budget plan passed by the U.S. House that includes reforms to partially privatize Medicare, which Democrats say will kill the popular entitlement program.

To counter consistent Democratic attacks in recent days against Ryan's Medicare proposals, the new Romney ad sought to turn the tables by contending the money senior citizens have paid into Medicare for years will instead fund Obama's 2010 health care reform bill.

At a campaign event Tuesday in Ohio, Romney beat the same drum.

"When he ran for office he said he'd protect Medicare, but did you know that he has taken $716 billion out of the Medicare trust fund -- he's raided that trust fund -- and you know what he did with it?" Romney said of Obama. "He's used it to pay for Obamacare -- a risky, unproven, federal government takeover of health care -- and if I'm president of the United States we're putting the $716 billion back."

A July 24 Congressional Budget Office report said that repealing the health care law, as called for by Romney and Ryan, would increase spending on Medicare by $716 billion through 2022. At the same time, the CBO letter said keeping Obamacare in place would not mean a $716 billion decrease in Medicare spending as claimed by Romney and his ad.

The Obama campaign called Romney's claim "dishonest and "hypocritical."

"The savings his ad attacks do not cut a single guaranteed Medicare benefit, and Mitt Romney embraced the very same savings when he promised he'd sign Paul Ryan's budget," said Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith.

David Axelrod, Obama's senior campaign adviser, told CNN earlier Tuesday that Medicare reforms in the president's health care law "took away subsidies, unwarranted subsidies, to insurance companies, and he used that money to help lengthen the life of Medicare by nearly a decade."

Steve Job's Home Robbed

More than $60,000 worth of computers and personal items have been stolen from the Palo Alto, California, home of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

Kariem McFarlin, 35, of Alameda was arrested and charged with residential burglary and selling stolen property, according to Scott Tsui, supervising deputy district attorney for Santa Clara County. McFarlin remains in the Santa Clara County jail on $500,000 bail pending a court hearing on Monday, Tsui said.

The break-in occurred July 17, although details of the burglary and McFarlin's August 2 arrest are now just becoming public. The house was being renovated last month, and nobody was home at the time, Tsui said.
